****Note-letter from CMP concerning tree cutting and pesticides**********

January 18,2012

GRANT WATMOUGH
TOWN OF WARREN
167 WESTERN RD
WARREN, ME 04864
Reliable electricity delivery service for your community

Dear GRANT WATMOUGH:

CMP works year-round to reduce tree-related outages and deliver the reliable service you depend on. An important part of our Tree Care program is to prevent outages along transmission lines. In 2012, our qualified contractors may be conducting tree work in your community.

The objective is to remove and discourage the growth of trees and to encourage the growth of grasses, ferns and bushes around power lines which traverse the countryside away from highways. We use a very limited amount of federally approved herbicides to prevent growth. All herbicides are applied by hand, directly to the individual tree we need to control, using hand-pressurized backpacks. Additionally, when trees are removed, herbicides are applied directly to the top of the freshly cut stumps to prevent resprouting.

After the snow melts, contractors will be cutting brush over 8 feet tall and treating the stumps with an herbicide on transmission rights-of-way. These same rights-of-way will be selectively treated with herbicides during the
gowing season.

Landowners who object to the use of herbicides on transmission corridors next to their property may request a Landowner's Maintenance Agreement with CMP. The landowner must agree to maintain these areas to the company's speciflcations. Landowner Agreement forms or additional information may be obtained by writing to CMP Vegetation Management, 83 Edison Drive, Augusta, ME 04336 or by calling Nicholas Hahn at
207-621-3942.

Notifying municipalities of our plans well in advance will give your municipal officials an opportunity to be better prepared to either respond to questions from their community members, or if you prefer, you may direct any inquiries about our Tree Care program to my attention. We appreciate the opportunity to deliver reliable service to our customers in your community. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Wes Davis
Manager, Vegetation Management
Utility and Landscape Arborist

Warren was settled in 1736 at the head of the tidewaters of the St. George River. The settlement was about 30,000 acres. On Nov. 7th 1776 the settlement was incorporated as the Town of Warren.

In the "Annals of Warren" we read, "the difficulty in raising the minister's salary and assessing taxes, together with the desire of participating with other towns in the measures of the revolution, induced the inhabitants of the Upper town on St. Georges's to petition to be incorporated. Their petition was granted; and on the 7th of November, 1776, the said plantation was incorporated into a town, and, in honor of Dr. Joseph Warren, who had the preceding year fallen so gloriously on Bunker Hill, was named Warren."

Today Warren has a population of 3794 people. The town has a volunteer fire department, ambulance service, public library and a post office. It also has a town manager, five selectmen and the annual town meeting is in March of each year.

Warren is a mostly residential community with easy access to surrounding communities by way of Rt. 1, Rt. 90, Rt. 17, Rt. 235 and Rt. 131. It is approximately 50 minutes east of Augusta and 45 minutes southwest of Belfast.

Much of the village area of Warren is served by the Warren Sanitary District sewer system and Aqua Maine Water Company.

Electricity for the town is supplied by Central Maine Power Company, phone service by TDS Telecom and Verizon and cable television by Adelphia/Time Warner.

Warren Community School is located in Warren and includes grades K through 6 from M.S.A.D. 40. Grades 7 & 8 attend school at the Medomak Middle School in Waldoboro and Grades 9 through 12 attend Medomak Valley High School in Waldoboro. The School Superintendent's Office can be reached at 785-2277 during normal business hours.

North Pond, South Pond, Crawford Lake and Seven Tree Pond all provide opportunities for camping, boating, fishing and swimming. The St. George River provides a wonderful setting for kayaking or canoeing.
